Lot #549: Rare France 1923 Ten Centimes Coin - Phrygian Cap (Liberty Cap) - Holed - (Lindauer) - Third Republic - over 100 years old!

Obverse: Features the letters "RF" (République Française) flanking a central hole. Above the hole sits a Phrygian cap (the Liberty cap) adorned with a cockade. The design is framed by a wreath of oak and laurel branches. The signature of the designer, EM LINDAVIER, is visible along the lower rim. Reverse: Features the denomination 10 CENTIMES above the central hole. Flanking the hole are two olive branches. The national motto LIBERTE · EGALITE · FRATERNITE surrounds the design. The date 1923 is at the bottom, flanked by the cornucopia (Paris Mint) and the bird (Chief Engraver Bazor). The 1923 French 10 centimes coin is a quintessential example of the "Lindauer" design from the Third Republic. This distinctive holed coin was introduced during World War I to conserve metal and was struck in cupro-nickel, a significant shift from the large bronze "Dupuis" coins of the previous century.: In 1923, France was in the midst of its post-war reconstruction.
