Lot #564: Netherlands 1956 One Cent Coin - Juliana - Cadaceus - Fish

Starting bidding

$1.00

Time Remaining:

Bidding starts in 0d 1h 1m

Obverse: Features the portrait of Queen Juliana facing right. Unlike her predecessor, the portrait is more modern and stylized. The inscription JULIANA KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN surrounds her image. Reverse: Features the denomination 1 CENT in the center. To the left is the Mercury Staff (Mint Mark for the Utrecht Mint) and to the right is the Fish (Mint Master's mark for Dr. J.W.A. van Hengel). The date 1956 is positioned at the bottom. The 1956 Netherlands 1 cent is a quintessential modern Dutch issue from the reign of Queen Juliana. This year is notable for being part of the post-war bronze series that circulated until the cent was eventually demonetized in 1980. In the mid-1950s, the Netherlands was in the midst of a significant economic recovery and "Reconstruction" (Wederopbouw). The 1 cent was a common sight in daily commerce, though its purchasing power was beginning to decline as the economy strengthened. Dimensions: Bronze. 17.1 mm. 2 g. Pickup category timeslot {A}
