Obverse: Features a highly stylized, fractured-profile portrait of Queen Beatrix (reigned from 1980 until her abdication in 2013), facing left. The portrait is composed of three distinct rectangular planes. The inscription BEATRIX KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN (Beatrx, Queen of the Netherlands) is arranged vertically and horizontally in a grid-like fashion. Reverse: Features the denomination "25 c" (for 25 cents) These are connected by a bold, grid pattern of lines. The date is positioned below. This lot of four coins includes 1984, 1989, 1990, and 1996. The geometric "grid" style introduced under Queen Beatrix was used for the 25 cent denomination for 21 years, from 1980 until 2001. This specific aesthetic marked a radical departure from traditional coin design and was applied to the entire "Guilder" family of coins until the Netherlands fully transitioned to the Euro. The design, created by artist Bruno Ninaber van Eyben, was first struck in 1980 to commemorate the investiture of Queen Beatrix. It was a bold move that replaced the more traditional portraits of her mother, Queen Juliana. Throughout its two-decade run, the 25 cent coin maintained its nickel composition and 19 mm diameter. While the date and the Mint Master marks (the small symbols like the bow and arrow) changed over the years, the core geometric portrait and reverse grid remained constant. Dimensions: Bronze. 19 mm. 2.5 g. Pickup category timeslot {A}
