Obverse: Features the profile of King Victor Emmanuel II (Vittorio Emanuele II) facing left. The King is depicted with his characteristic prominent mustache and goatee and high forehead. The inscription VITTORIO EMANUELE II RE D'ITALIA surrounds the portrait. The engraver's name FERRARIS is at the base of the neck. Reverse: Features the denomination 5 CENTESIMI in the center, surrounded by a lush wreath of Oak and Laurel branches. At the top is the Star of Italy. The date 1861 and the mint mark are at the bottom. This coin bears a "M" mintmark, indicating that it was struck at Milan Mint. The 1861 Italy 5 centesimi is a monumental issue in European numismatics. It is a "Unification" coin, struck during the very first year of the Kingdom of Italy.
