Lot #592: Denmark 2017 Fifty Øre Coin - Crown of Christian V - Finland Mint

Obverse: Features the Crown of King Christian V (the traditional crown used for the anointing of Danish absolute monarchs). The crown is positioned in the center, "dividing" the date at the top, with 20 to the left and 17 to the right. The word DANMARK is inscribed along the bottom rim. Reverse: Features the denomination 50 ØRE in large, bold numbers. At the very top, centered above the "50," is a small Heart, which is the historic mint mark of the Royal Danish Mint. The 2017 Denmark 50 Øre is a contemporary staple of the Danish Krone system. While it maintains the classic design introduced in 1989, the 2017 issue marks a significant technical shift in production history, as it was among the first years that Danish circulation coins were minted by the Mint of Finland rather than in Copenhagen. Though the heart mint mark traditionally represented the Copenhagen Mint, the 2017 coins were actually struck at the Suomen Rahapaja (Mint of Finland) in Vantaa, following the closure of production facilities at the Danish National Bank.
