Obverse: Features the Crowned Monogram of King Gustaf V (a stylized "GV" under the Royal Crown). The inscription SVERIGE (Sweden) is positioned at the top, and the date 1945 is at the bottom. To the left of the date is the mint mark (the letter S for Stockholm) and to the right is the initial of the Mintmaster (G for Alf Grabe). Reverse: Features the denomination 1 ÖRE in a large, bold font in the center. Above the numeral are the Three Crowns of Sweden (Tre Kronor), the national emblem, arranged in a triangular pattern. The 1945 Sweden One Öre Coin is a distinct issue from the final years of the reign of King Gustaf V. Struck in iron rather than the traditional bronze, it serves as a "necessity" issue, reflecting the metal shortages in Europe during the closing months of World War II. During World War II, Sweden transitioned from bronze to iron for its low-denomination coinage to conserve copper for the war effort.
