Lot #615: Rare Russia 1911 Half Kopeck Coin - Monogram of Czar Nicholas II - Over 115 years old!

The Obverse features the Monogram of Nicholas II, which consists of a stylized Cyrillic "Н" (N) and the Roman numeral "II". Framing the bottom of the design are two crossed branches—laurel on the left and oak on the right—tied together with a ribbon, representing the dual concepts of victory and endurance. The Reverse displays the denomination ½ КОПѢЙКИ (1/2 Kopeck) centered between two decorative rosettes. The date 1911 is positioned at the top of the coin, while the mint mark С.П.Б. (S.P.B.) for the St. Petersburg Mint is located at the bottom. The entire design is encircled by a dotted border. Issued during the reign of Tsar Nicholas II, the 1911 Half Kopeck (historically known as the Denezhka) represents the smallest denomination of the imperial currency system. Struck at the St. Petersburg Mint, it served as a workhorse for minor daily transactions during the final decade of the Russian Empire's traditional copper coinage. This issue is a favorite among collectors of the Romanov dynasty because it is one of the last dates to bear the "С.П.Б." mark; by 1914, the city's name was changed to Petrograd to sound less German during World War I, and the mint mark was subsequently removed from the dies.
