Obverse: Features a Wheatsheaf (symbol of prosperity and hard work), with Fraktur blacklettering setting out proverb "SICH REGEN BRINGT SEGEN" meaing literally "To stir brings blessings", or more figuratively "Hard work pays off". The mint mark J is located at the bottom. Reverse: Features the Value and Date in exergue. The lettering is in Fraktur blackletter: DEUTSCHES REICH ("German Empire") with the value "50 PFENNIG". The date 1922 is positioned at the bottom. The 1922 50 Pfennig was struck during the Weimar Republic’s period of accelerating inflation. Minted at the Hamburg Mint (signified by the "J" mint mark), this coin was part of an effort to provide low-cost currency using aluminum, as the value of the German Mark was declining too rapidly to support heavier metals like copper or nickel. . These aluminum coins were a practical response to the economic instability following World War I; the lightweight metal was inexpensive and easy to strike in massive quantities. This "Proverb" series is historically significant as it represents the final attempt to issue Pfennig-denominated coins before the hyperinflation of 1923 rendered such small units of currency effectively worthless. Dimensions: Aluminum. 23.0 mm. 1.6 g. Pickup category timeslot {A}
