Obverse: Features the National Emblem of Mexico: A Mexican golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus, devouring a snake. Below the eagle is a half-wreath of oak (representing strength) and laurel (representing victory). Lettering: ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS (United Mexican States). Reverse: Features the portrait of Venustiano Carranza, a leader of the Mexican Revolution and the first president of the modern Mexican Republic. Carranza is shown in profile, facing right. He was instrumental in drafting the current Constitution of Mexico in 1917. Above the portrait are seven raised dots (), which represent the number "100" in Braille—a notable early example of accessibility in coinage. The denomination 100, the year 1988, the mint mark M, and the name V. CARRANZA are all present.
