Obverse: Features the National Arms of Barbados. The Shield is supported by a Dolphin (representing the fishing industry) and a Pelican (representing Pelican Island). The Crest above the shield is a helmet and a hand holding two crossed pieces of Sugar Cane, which was the backbone of the Barbadian economy for centuries. The Motto on the ribbon at the bottom reads "PRIDE AND INDUSTRY." The Lettering is "BARBADOS" and the date 2008. Reverse: Features a detailed depiction of the Morgan Lewis Windmill. Built in 1727, this is one of only two functional sugar windmills left in the Caribbean. It was used to grind sugar cane until 1945. Lettering: TWENTY FIVE CENTS. The reverse was engraved by Philip Nathan (his initials PN appear on the coin) The Barbados 2008 Twenty-Five Cent Coin is a beautiful example of Caribbean numismatics, featuring one of the region's most important industrial landmarks. This specific issue belongs to the era when Queen Elizabeth II was the Head of State (Barbados became a Republic in 2021). Interestingly, this coin was struck at the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg, which explains why the quality and "feel" of the plating are similar to Canada's. Barbados switched from a copper-nickel alloy to this nickel-plated steel version in 2007 to save on production costs. This 2008 coin is one of the earliest years for this "magnetic" type. Dimensions: Nickel Plated Steel 23.7 mm. 5.1 g. Pickup category timeslot {A}
