Obverse: Features the Coat of Arms of Jamaica, which dates back to 1661. The Shield features a red cross on a white field, with five golden pineapples (representing the indigenous flora). The Supporters are a Taino man and woman standing on either side of the shield. The Motto, inscribed on a ribbon below, is "OUT OF MANY, ONE PEOPLE." The Lettering is "JAMAICA" and the date 1969. Reverse: Features the Red-billed Streamertail (Trochilus polytmus), also known as the "Doctor Bird." This is the national bird of Jamaica, found only on the island. It is known for the two long feathers at the end of its tail. The Legend is TWENTY FIVE CENTS, Both sides were designed by the famous British sculptor Christopher Ironside, who also designed the first decimal coins of the United Kingdom. The Jamaica 1969 Twenty-Five Cents coin is a foundational coin for Jamaica, marking the country’s transition to a decimal currency system. Struck in heavy copper-nickel, it replaced the old British-style shillings and pence. Jamaican coinage is highly praised for its nature-inspired designs. The "Doctor Bird" is a favorite among bird-on-coin collectors because of the graceful way Ironside captured the bird's long tail feathers curving around the denomination "25." Dimensions: Copper-Nickel 32.3 mm 14.1 g (Quite large, roughly the size of a Canadian Silver Dollar) Pickup category timeslot {A}
