Bidding starts in 0d 1h 44m

Obverse: Features the foundational portrait of Julius Nyerere, the first President of Tanzania (1964–1985). A youthful profile of Nyerere facing left. In 1966, he had only been President for two years, and this image became the face of Tanzanian currency for decades. Lettering: TANZANIA 1966 and RAIS WA KWANZA ((Swahili for "First President"). Reverse: A hand is shown holding a flaming torch, the Uhuru Torch (Freedom Torch). The Uhuru Torch is a powerful national symbol in Tanzania, representing freedom, enlightenment, and the hope of the nation following independence. It was first lit on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in 1961. Lettering: SHILINGI MOJA (Swahili for One Shilling) and the numeral 1. This Tanzania 1966 One Shilingi coin represents the very first year of the Tanzanian Shilling. After the formation of the Republic in 1964, the country moved away from the East African Shilling to establish its own national currency. Like the 20 Senti coin offered in Lot #681, this coin features the clean, balanced design work of Christopher Ironside. Dimensions: Copper-Nickel 27.74 mm. 8 g. Pickup category timeslot {A}
