One Vintage 1910 Ontario Canada Postcard, used, showing "Sibbald's Church, Lake Simcoe, Ontario" and published by "P.Chappelle". Marked as "Canadian, Private Past Card." Includes One Green 1903 One-Cent "King Edward VII Coronation Robe" Stamp. Postmarked and dated October 1910 in Sutton Ontario. Addressed to Miss Mary Holland, in Kearney, Ontario from "Sister Jennie". Personal greeting message in ink on left side, and unusual additional message in pencil on right side: "There's nothing half so sweet in life as love's yearning dreams..." This is an evocative piece of Ontario history, blending an iconic heritage site with a deeply personal—and somewhat mysterious—social narrative. St. George’s Anglican Church, often called Sibbald’s Church, is one of the most historic landmarks on the shores of Lake Simcoe. Built in the 1830s and 1840s by the Sibbald family, the church is a stunning example of early Ontario stone architecture. Its graveyard is the final resting place of notable Canadian authors Stephen Leacock and Mazo de la Roche. Located at what is now Sibbald Point Provincial Park near Sutton, the church was a popular destination for summer visitors and pilgrims even in 1910. P. Chappelle was a publisher based in New York, known for producing high-quality cards for the Canadian market. The inscription "Private Post Card" is a regulatory relic. Before 1903, only the government-issued "Post Cards" were allowed the lower postal rate. Privately printed versions had to be marked "Private Post Card" to comply with postal laws. Even though regulations had loosened by 1910, many publishers kept the heading out of habit or to ensure international delivery. The post mark also tells a story: "Sutton West" was the primary postal hub for the Sibbald Point area.
