One Vintage 1905 Ontario Canada Postcard, used, showing multiple Horse and Buggy Carts on a dirt street at "Main Street, Norwich, Ontario". White Border with caption below image. This richly coloured postcard is labelled as "Warwick Brothers and Ruttler, Limited, Publishers, Toronto" The Postcard has a divided back and is labelled "Canadian Souvenir Postcard" with Number 1744" Stamped with One Green 1903 One-Cent "King Edward VII Coronation Robe" Stamp. Postmarked November 1905. Ink message in faint hand: "Dear Cousin". addresed to "Miss Birdell Sprague" in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. This postcard is a remarkable "early adopter" of the divided back format, predating the general 1907 global standard. Published by Warwick Brothers & Rutter, one of the most prestigious and historically significant printing firms in Toronto, it captures the rural charm of Norwich just as the 20th century began. Warwick Brothers & Rutter was a titan of Canadian printing, dating back to the 1840s. By 1905, they were renowned for their "Warwick" series, which documented hundreds of small Ontario towns Their cards often used a high-quality lithographic process. In 1905, Norwich was a bustling agricultural hub. This card traveled from Ontario to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Because it was an international mailing, the divided back was technically allowed under a specific postal convention with the United States, provided it was a "Private Post Card."
