One 1910 Vintage Floral Postcard, used, showing Red Poppies and "Robbie Burns" with the message "We Twa Hae Run About the Braes". This coloured postcard, with a Gold Gilt border, does not indicate a publisher, but the front painting is marked "copyright 1908 C. Eckstone." Stamped with One Green USA One-Cent "Benjamin Franklin" Stamp. Postmarked 1910 in Alma, Missouri. Addressed to Mrs. Kneck, Aullville, Missouri. This card is in the same series as that listed in Lot #763. The Subject: "We Twa Hae Run About the Braes" ("We two have run about the hillsides") is a famous line from Burns’ 1788 masterpiece, "Auld Lang Syne" about shared history and childhood friendship, making it a popular sentiment for correspondence between old friends or family members. The Red Poppies are a classic Edwardian floral choice, but here they also serve as a symbolic nod to the Scottish countryside. The Copyright 1908 C. Eckstone mark is a valuable cataloging detail. Eckstone was a prolific illustrator of the era, often specializing in these "Motto" and "Poetry" cards. While no publisher is listed, the 1908 copyright and the high-quality gilt finish strongly suggest it was produced by a major Chicago or New York firm like P. Sander or International Art Publ. Co., both of whom frequently licensed Eckstone’s romanticized literary scenes. The postal history of this card from Alma to Aullville, Missourhis card documents a very local, rural Missouri exchange. Alma and Aullville are only about 15 miles apart in Lafayette County. Sending a postcard for such a short distance was the 1910 version of a quick text message to a neighbor.
