One Vintage 1906 UK Scottish Postcard, used, showing a Road along a Stream with the caption "Quarrymill, Perth". This richly coloured postcard, does not indicate the publisher. Stamped with one 1902 Green United Kingdom Half Penny "King Edward VII" Stamp. Postmarked in July 1906 at Bankfoot, Scotland Addressed to "Mrs. Wilson, 341 Albert Road, Lay Side, Glasgow". The message in uneven hand in pencil reads in part "...got up to Berry Hill last night....M. B. B." This 1906 Perthshire card is a classic of the "Scottish Pastoral" genre, capturing a tranquil woodland scene from the Edwardian era. Mailed during the height of the July holiday season, it documents a personal journey from the rural village of Bankfoot to the industrial heart of Glasgow. Although the publisher is not indicated, the "richly coloured" nature and the 1906 date suggest this was produced using Chromolithography, likely in Germany or by a high-end British firm like Valentine & Sons (who were based nearby in Dundee). Located on the outskirts of Perth, Quarrymill was a popular "beauty spot" for Edwardian strollers. The combination of the road and the stream (the Annatland Burn) offered the ideal "picturesque" composition that collectors of the era craved. Bankfoot (where this card was postmarked) is a small village north of Perth. The July postmark suggests the sender, M.B.B., was likely on a summer "staycation" or visiting relatives in the Highlands. The home at 341 Albert Road, Glasgow (where this card was sent) is in the Pollokshields area of Glasgow, which was a thriving middle-class district in 1906.
