Luss is renowned as a 19th-century Scottish estate village, rebuilt by the Colquhouns of Luss to house workers in a picturesque, uniform style. This full-color painting focusses on "The Islands," and captures the transition from the Lowlands to the Highlands at the Highland Boundary Fault. The phrasing "For Postage, in the United Kingdom only, this space may be used for Correspondence" is an exceptionally useful dating and publishing diagnostic. This specific wording was used almost exclusively between 1902 and 1904. It was a cautious reaction to the Post Office's 1902 decision to allow divided backs; publishers were terrified that customers would try to send these "message-on-the-left" cards to the USA or Europe, where they would be rejected or taxed. While the Publisher is not named, this specific typography is frequently associated with The "Peacock" Brand (Pictorial Stationery Co., London) or J.M. & Co. (J. Malcolm of Glasgow).
