One Vintage 1900s UK Windsor Postcard, unused, showing the Windsor Castle and town, with boats on the River Thames, with title caption "Windsor Castle". This postcard indicates the publisher as "The British Mirror Series: Hold the Mirror Up to Nature", and is marked "Made in Saxony" and requires "Inland Stamp 1/2 d. Foreign 1 d." No Stamp. Never Postally Used. No Message. This "British Mirror Series" postcard is a superb example of the Anglo-German trade partnership that dominated the "Golden Age" of postcards. By pairing a iconic British royal landmark with the technical precision of Saxony printing, this card offers a view of Windsor Castle as both a symbol of the monarchy and a centerpiece of Thames-side leisure heritage. The motto "Hold the Mirror Up to Nature" (a famous line from Hamlet) was the trademark of Wildt & Kray, a major London-based firm. Wildt & Kray were known for their "Artistic Series" which utilized high-quality lithography to achieve a soft, naturalistic look—hence the "Mirror to Nature" branding. The "Made in Saxony" label confirms the card was printed in Germany. Saxony was the global epicenter for chromolithography, and British publishers relied on German presses to produce the vibrant sky and water tones seen in this Windsor river scene. The view captures the "North Front" of the castle as seen from the Eton side of the River Thames. The instruction "Inland Stamp 1/2 d. Foreign 1 d." places the card’s production squarely in the Golden Age of Edwardian postcards (c. 1905–1909). Dimensions: 9 mm x 14 mm Pickup category timeslot {A}
