Vintage 1900s UK "Valentine's" Scotland Postcard, unused. Shows mountain stream with inset logo of "JV" in a circle, with caption "Falls of Unich, Loch Lee". Reverse indicates publisher as "Valentine's Series" and indicates "This space may be used for communication for inland postage." No Stamp. Never postally used. No message. This Valentine’s Series specimen is a classic example of Scottish Romantic Topography, documenting the rugged beauty of Glenesk, Angus. As one of the "Big Three" British postcard publishers, Valentine & Sons were instrumental in defining the visual brand of the Scottish Highlands for the global market, including this High-Detail Monochrome Collotype card. Founded in Dundee, Valentine & Sons was a global powerhouse of the industry. The "JV" Logo in a circle stands for James Valentine, the founder and pioneering photographer who received a Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria. The card depicts the dramatic waters of the River Unich as they tumble toward Loch Lee. This area is part of the Invermark Estate in the Angus Glens, maintained as a pristine wilderness landscape for centuries. Valentine’s photographers were known for their "Deep Focus" landscape shots. They often waited hours for the correct lighting to capture the "white water" effect of the falls against the dark Highland stone, ensuring the Visual Integrity of the scene matched the romantic expectations of Edwardian tourists. The instruction "This space may be used for communication for inland postage" without mention of foreign rates typically points to the "Early Divided Back" era (1902–1904).
