Vintage 1930s UK "Constance" Real Photograph Postcard, unused. Shows large Tudor Wattle-and-Daub (plaster) house with caption "Shakespeare's Birthplace, Stratford-upon-Avon". Reverse indicates "Published by D. Constance Ltd. (copyright), 22 Christchurch Road, Streatham Hill, London, S.W. 2" and indicates "This is a Real Photograph". No Stamp. Never postally used. No message. This D. Constance Ltd. specimen is a cornerstone of British Literary Heritage, documenting arguably the most famous timber-framed building in the world. Produced by a specialist London firm, this card emphasizes "Architectural Fidelity" through the Real Photograph process. Based in Streatham Hill, London, D. Constance Ltd. was a high-tier publisher of "Real Photograph" cards, often focusing on national landmarks and literary shrines. Their cards are noted for their high-contrast, silver-gelatin finish. The "Real Photo" process allows you to see the irregular, hand-hewn nature of the oak timbers. The subject of this card is Shakespeare's Birthplace, in Stratford-upon-Avon. This 16th-century half-timbered house on Henley Street features Tudor Gables and the Wattle-and-Daub (plaster) construction. It was purchased for the nation in 1847 to save it from being dismantled and moved to America by P.T. Barnum. While the D. Constance Ltd. firm operated for several decades, the address format and the "Real Photograph" branding style suggest a mid-interwar production, likely the interwar years, c. 1930–1935.
