Vintage 1910s UK Postcard, unused. Shows crenellated castle building, with caption "The Clock Tower, Warwick Castle." Photo labelled "Photo by J.J. Ward, Coventry." Reverse indicates publisher as "Special Photo-Art Series, No. 1027, copyright by J.J. Ward, Coventry" and indicates "Printed in England. No Stamp. Never postally used. No message. This Special Photo-Art Series specimen is a high-caliber architectural study from one of the UK’s most celebrated medieval fortresses. Photographed and published by J.J. Ward of Coventry, it captures Warwick Castle during a period when it was transitioning from a private ancestral seat to a premier "Heritage Destination." The Publisher was J.J. Ward, Coventry, a notable photographer and naturalist based in the Midlands. His "Special Photo-Art" series was known for its "Fine Art" approach to topographical views. Rather than the flat, high-gloss finish of mass-market postcards, Ward’s "Photo-Art" cards often utilized a matte or textured finish to highlight the masonry textures and atmospheric depth of his subjects. Being based in nearby Coventry, Ward had a distinct advantage in capturing Warwick Castle under optimal lighting conditions. The No. 1027 catalog number suggests a significant, organized archive of regional landmarks. The Clock Tower at Warwick Castle is often associated with (or adjacent to) the massive 14th-century Guy’s Tower. The "crenellated" or battlemented top is a hallmark of military gothic architecture. This postcard likely dates from the Early 20th Century era (c. 1910–1925). Dimensions: 9 mm x 14 mm Pickup category timeslot {A}
