Vintage 1930s USA New Hampshire Postcard, unused, showing large mountain and lake, with caption "973. - Lafayette and North Peak over Eagle Lake." This black and white postcard has a logo of New Hampshire's "Old Man of the Mountain" and indicates the publisher as "The Shorey Studio, Gorham, N.H." No Stamp. Never Postally Used. No Message. This Shorey Studio specimen is a definitive record of the White Mountains of New Hampshire, a region that served as the "American Alps" for East Coast academics and travelers in the early 20th century. Produced in Gorham, N.H., this card captures the rugged, glacial topography of the Franconia Range. The Publisher was The Shorey Studio, Gorham, N.H. Guy Shorey was one of the most significant landscape photographers of the White Mountains. The "Old Man of the Mountain" Logo represent an iconic rock formation on Cannon Mountain that collapsed in 2003 that served as a "Seal of Quality" for New Hampshire topographical photography. Shorey was active for several decades, but the crisp, high-contrast monochrome style and the catalog number 973 suggest a peak production period in the 1920s to early 1930s. Mount Lafayette is the highest peak in the Franconia Range. The "North Peak" and the small, alpine Eagle Lake (located on the "Greenleaf Trail") represent a pristine "Wilderness Character."
