1975 United Nations Commemorative Cacheted First Day Cover - Engraved picture of the Milky Way, with caption "Utilsations pacifiques de l'espace extra-atmospherique". Cachet issued by "Éditions des Nations Unies, Genève. Dessin de Brigitte Mozier, École des Arts Décoratifs, Genève, Suisse." Stamped with four 1975 United Nations Ten Cent "Peaceful Uses of Outer Space" Stamps (Scott #261), perforated in corner square. Postmarked March 14, 1975 at the United Nations, New York. This 1975 United Nations First Day Cover (FDC) represents a sophisticated intersection of international diplomacy and mid-century modern design. Issued during the height of the "Space Age" cooperation era, it utilizes a Genevan artistic perspective to commemorate global efforts in satellite technology and space exploration. This FDC features four 10 "Peaceful Uses of Outer Space" stamps (Scott #261). Issued on March 14, 1975, this stamp was part of a synchronized release between the UN headquarters in New York and the UN office in Geneva. The 10-cent denomination features a stylized graphic representing satellite orbits or atmospheric layers. The cover is franked with four of these stamps (totaling 40 cents), which provided the necessary postage for heavier international airmail or registered domestic rates at the time. The Cachet was produced by Éditions des Nations Unies, Genève, which served as the official philatelic bureau for the Geneva office, ensuring a high standard of production for these collector-serviced covers. The artwork on this cover is a product of a formal collaboration between the UN and the Swiss artistic community. The Artist, Brigitte Mozier, was a student at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Geneva. The use of student designers was a hallmark of the UN’s efforts to engage global youth in international themes.
