Lot #49: Pair of Mid-Century Japan Figurines

Starting bidding

$1.00

Time Remaining:

Bidding starts in 0d 6h 12m

Vintage ceramic figurine pair marked “Japan” on the base. Decorative hand-painted figures with little to no wear. Approx. 8” tall "Pinkie" and "The Blue Boy" figurines are popular 20th-century decorative items modeled after two famous, unrelated 18th-century British portraits. While the paintings - Thomas Gainsborough’s The Blue Boy (c. 1770) and Thomas Lawrence’s Pinkie (1794) - were united at The Huntington in California in the 1920s, the widespread production of porcelain figurines, often by companies like Formalities by Baum Brothers, cemented their status as a matched pair in home decor, especially during the mid-20th century. Dimensions: 8” tall Pickup category timeslot {A}
