Balinese Wooden Sculpture of Arjuna • This Sculpture was made sometime between 1970 and 1990. • This intricately carved work is a hallmark of Balinese artistry. I believe that this piece is carved from either suar or Hibiscus wood. • This figure is shown in a Buddha pose with crossed legs. • Meditation Mudra: The hand position, with hands joined at the chest, represents spiritual practice and severe asceticism. • Pointed Shoulders: The sharp, upward-pointing shoulder ornaments are a distinctive feature of traditional Balinese, as well as from Thai-influenced sculpture. • Garuda Wings (Praba): The elaborate, winged structures extending from the back of the head/crown are a common motif in Balinese art. These often represent a stylized Garuda or a "halo" (praba) that signifies the divine or heroic status of the figure. • In excellent condition, no breaks, cracks, or chips.
