Vintage 4-Panel Lacquer Coromandel or Byobu Tabletop Screen • This is a traditional Chinese made tabletop screen with motifs, depicting serene nature scenes with trees, figures, and architecture on one side, and the back has goldfish symbolic of luck, loyalty, and wealth. • A continuous panoramic landscape or "panorama" scene spread across four panels. Black lacquered wood with detailed inlays made of iridescent mother-of-pearl. • The goldfish and aquatic plants on this screen are created using a traditional Asian decorative technique known as lacquer art specifically called Coromandel or Nacre work. • Based on the style, materials, and common production periods, this tabletop screen was made between the 1950's and 1980's. • In excellent condition, no breaks, cracks, or chips.
