Antique Japanese "Arita-yaki" Plate • This plate was produced during the Late Meiji period (approx. 1880-1900). • The deep, controlled cobalt blue "Sometsuke", and the hand painted peony were hallmarks of Arita kilns as of the 1880's. As well, the gold gilt is also hand painted onto the piece. • The combination of the front design and this specific "clover-leaf" style foot rim, this plate was made in Arita, Saga Prefecture, in Northwestern Kyushu. • This is a mold piece is made from a traditional "soft" clay dug from a pit. It is a crushed porcelain stone rich in kaolin, quartz, and feldspar. • They used wood fired traditional Noborigama style kiln to fired this piece. • In very good condition, no breaks, cracks, or chips, some wear. • 2.5 cm. x 20 cm. x 17.5 cm.
