1922 Era Benson & Hedges Wooden Cigar Box • This antique Benson & Hedges wooden cigar box was specifically for the "Coronas de B. & H." line. • Benson & Hedges was established in London in 1873 by Richard Benson and William Hedges. • The seal on box is a Canadian Tobacco Excise Tax Stamp from the "Series of 1922." This specific seal was a legal requirement for tobacco sold in Canada to prove federal duties had been paid. • The 34 (Factory Number): Shows that the cigars were manufactured in Montreal. The #10 (Inland Revenue District): This represents the regional tax district. And the "D" (Province Code) was for the province of Quebec • This "burned-in" message on the base was a mandatory legal notice required by the Canadian Excise Act of 1863. • The lid shows the brand's oval logo with "London - Montreal - New York" and the warning "Beware of Imitations" • This box says a "Boite Nature" (French for "natural box" on one side.
