1920's Japanese "Gouda Style" Lidded Container • This piece was made in either Nagoya Region, or the Seto (Aichi Prefecture) of Japan, as thees were the main areas where this "Gouda Style" was produced. • "Dutch Connection": In the 1920's through the 1930's, Dutch Gouda pottery from the Zuid-Holland became a global sensation for its "matte-glaze" technique and "jazz-pattern" designs. • Japanese manufacturers quickly pivoted to create more affordable versions for the American and European markets. • This is a mold formed earthen ware clay body, but all the decoration was done by hand. • In excellent condition, no breaks, cracks, or chips.
