Birdie Boone - "Japanese Feeling" Mug • Birdie Boone is a potter. She received her BA in Fine Arts from The College of William and Mary in Virginia in 1994 and her MFA in Artis & Ceramics from the Univ. of Mass. in Dartmouth in 2005. • Birdie was a long-term residentency at the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts in Helena, Montana, (2007 2009). • She has a full-time studio in rural southwestern Virginia. • This mug is hand/slab formed. It's made with a dark brown almost black clay fired to cone 6 in an electric kiln. • The walls almost "porcelain" thin, and the mug itself is light weight. • The overall mug features a steel-grey glossy glaze with many tiny speckled brownish flecks and dots. • There are "drip marks" that go up, rather than down, so a very clever firing process indeed! • While the handle looks small it works wonderfully with the thumb resting on the little protrusion at the lip. • The most unusual thing is the base. The potter intentionally curved it slightly so the mug rocks gently when set down. • In excellent condition, no breaks or cracks, or scratches. View images. • 9.3 cm. x 11 cm. x 10 cm.
