Lot #85: Two Grateful Dead Concert Posters: FD-12 by Wes Wilson, 1966 & F317 Phil Lesh & Friends by Randy Tuten 1998

Here is a lot of two Grateful Dead posters, one for the original band for a concert way back on 6/10-11/1966 at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco. This was from a Family Dog series concert, and was created by the Godfather of the psychedelic rock poster genre, artist Wes Wilson (1937-2020). The poster measures approximately 14.25” x 20.5”. The poster is number FD-12-RP-3, which is the first authorized reprint of the poster (according to the guidelines of Eric King's famous reference book). But I have been unable to determine when exactly the poster was printed but it was sometime after the concert. Also interesting to note that times being what they were, the owner also got Wes Wilson's home phone number on the poster! Poster is in near mint condition. The second poster is for a concert by Phil Lesh and Friends on 2/27/1998 (a benefit for The Unbroken Chain Foundation). The poster is F317 (#317 in the Fillmore series) by rock poster artist Randy Tuten (b. 1946), who one may remember from some of the earliest Bill Graham Fillmore Era posters from the 1960's. He is the same artist who is still working at 80 years old creating posters and artwork! It is also interesting to compare the two posters to see how poster design and production has changed over the many years (and is still changing). The poster measures 19" x 13" and is in mint condition. Both posters have been stored flat for decades. Located upstairs.
