Lot #53: National Wildlife Federation Stamp Album, 1938-1949

Starting bidding

$1.00

Bidding starts in 0d 1h 5m

A deep red 3-ring binder from the National Wildlife Federation, with embossed gold title plate on front and spine. Annual pamphlets are dated 1938 through 1949, with a few years missing. While there is some water damage to the binder and several pamphlets, they retain their bright colors and are intact, with one exception in 1943, as shown. These poster size stamps were released annually, with proceeds devoted to the Federation and to state conservancies. Founded in 1936, as awareness of the pressures on wildlife and habitat was rising, the NWF sought to ally conservationists with hunters and farmers to protect habitat, and especially to restore duck and other game bird populations. Its first president, Jay "Ding" Darling, was also an artist and had been appointed by FDR to head the U.S. Biological Survey. He illustrated the first Federal Duck Stamp, as well as many of the images for the first sheet of stamps in 1938. Dimensions: 10" X 11.5" Pickup category timeslot {A}
