Lot #60: Five Hand-tinted Vintage Wallace Nutting and Other Photographs

Starting bidding

$1.00

Time Remaining:

Bidding starts in 0d 1h 5m

Sweet hand-tinted photos, most tipped in and a couple matted, all in period-appropriate frames. A Garden of Larkspur, by Wallace Nutting. Nutting is well known, and was called "an American renaissance man" by the Framingham History Center. A photographer, writer, furniture maker, and minister, Nutting (1861-1941) spearheaded the Colonial Revival movement, which became influential in home design, furnishings, and stirred an interest in historic preservation. His Framingham factory turned out items for the home, and its success gave him the freedom to pursue other interests, particularly the collecting of antiques. His 2-volume "Furniture Treasury" is itself collectible, and still in print. Much of his collection was sold to J.P. Morgan, and ended up in the Wadsworth Atheneum. Also in this lot, Woodland Invitation signed in ink by David Davidson. A Providence, RI native, Davidson worked his way through Brown University studying civil engineering, while also establishing a photography studio. He worked for Nutting for a while, and then struck out on his own, diversifying into greeting cards, advertising pix, and private commissions as interest in hand-colored landscape photography began to wane. Plus Birches, Cape Elizabeth, signed by Le Busch; as well as two which are titled but unsigned. Dimensions: 8.75 - 16"W X 10.5 - 14"H Pickup category timeslot {A}
