This memorial cross was issued to the family of Frederick Samuel Austin Connell who was killed/missing in action during the Canadian assault at Courcelette, Battle of the Somme, Sept 17, 1916. Private FSA Connell (regiment no. 123207) served in the 58th Battalion (Central Ontario), CEF, part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. Original brooch has suspension intact. The Royal Cypher of King George V is at center with a laurel wreath and cross motif (unpolished, original patina). Pickup category timeslot {B}
