Offered is a documented and attributed WWI grouping tied to a real soldier of the 18th Battalion CEF: JAMES HARPER Original 18th Battalion cap badge (“Western Ontario”) and original “For Service at the Front” CEF lapel badge (numbered: 61587) Badges are consistent with his service and retained within the family and passed down through his son’s estate. Provenance is further supported by CEF attestation records matching James Harper, enistment location (Chatham ON) consistent with family history, and next-of-kin details aligning with documented genealogy. The 18th Battalion was among the early Canadian infantry units deployed to the Western Front under the Canadian Expeditionary Force. James Harper was injured at the Battle of Flers-Courcelette, Somme on Sept 15th 1916 and sustained a severe gun shot wound to his left arm. Condition: Cap badge: strong detail, original lugs intact. Service badge: clear numbering, honest wear. Both pieces untouched, with natural age patina. Items are attributed to James Harper based on documented research and family provenance.
