- Item type: Tribal bag cover - Material: Wool pile; cotton warp, weft and fringe - Construction: Hand-knotted - Style / Origin: Persian / Oriental - Primary colors: Cream/ivory, brown/tan, pink/rose, black/dark - Pattern: Floral/botanical (tree of life style) with border - Size (approx.): 19" x 18" (including fringe) - Condition: Used, minor wear Photo of the rug in the frame is for illustration purposes only, frame not included and label not included This piece is almost certainly of South Persian nomadic origin, highly characteristic of the Luri (Lur) or Qashqai tribal confederations. The Design: The vertical, interlocking tree-like or vine structures populated with abstract geometric figures are classic South Persian tribal motifs. These shapes traditionally represent highly stylized birds, animals (like camels or goats), or protective talismans. The Palette: The use of deep midnight blue/charcoal, rich terracotta orange, a signature madder pink/magenta, and a dominant un-dyed ivory/cream field is textbook Luri/Qashqai weaving. The striking, high-contrast block chunkiness of the figures points strongly toward a Luri weaver, as they are famous for their bold, spontaneous, and dramatic geometric expressions. 2. Weave and Structure (The Reverse Side) authenticity and age: Hand-Spun Material: slight variations in the thickness of the yarns and the way the colors saturate, which strongly indicates hand-spun wool and traditional vegetable/natural dyes. The Selvedges and Ends: The remaining multi-colored overcast selvedges (the sides) and the long, loose warp fringe at the ends are exactly how these tribal bags were finished before being stitched together. Knot Density: It features a relatively thick, heavy, ribbed texture on the back. This isn't a fine urban workshop weave; it’s a rugged, utilitarian pile weave meant to handle being packed onto camels or donkeys. Pickup category timeslot {A}
