James Wilson Morrice. Canadian (1865–1924). H.M.S. Ariadne Off Quebec In The St. Lawrence. Oil On Panel, Signed Lower Right. Circa, 1910. Panel 10 X 13”; Frame 15 X 18”. Titled In Ink In Morrice'S Hand Verso. ""The Ariadne-H.M.S. Quebec". Small Paper Label On Verso Reading 144. Original Frame. Provenance From The Estate Of June Bramall, Oakville. June Bramall Was A Distinguished Art Conservator. Morrice Was A Renowned Canadian Impressionist Painter And Is Considered Canada'S Foremost Modernist Artist. He Was The First Canadian Painter To Be Known Internationally. In 1891, He Moved To Paris, France, Where He Lived For Most Of His Career With Journeys To Many Different Places Such As, In France, Brittany, And Normandy, And Elsewhere, Venice, North Africa, And The Caribbean, Besides Quebec. Hms Ariadne Was A Diadem-Class Cruiser Of The Royal Navy, Which Was Launched In 1898, In March 1913, She Was Converted To A Stokers' Training Ship And In 1917 Was Converted To A Minelayer And Assigned To The Nore Command. In March 1902 She Was Ordered To Prepare For Service On The North America And West Indies Station, Station Headquartered At Halifax, She Visited St. John'S, Newfoundland, Quebec City And Charlottetown, She Also Visited The Bermuda Headquarters Of The Station And Trinidad. Buyer’s Premium: There is an 18% Buyer’s Premium in effect for this auction.

Payment: Payment above $1,000 may not be automatically processed at auction close. If payment is not processed on closing payment must be made by wire or e-transfer and full payment is required within two (2) business days.

Final Sale: All Lots are sold as is, where is. All sales are final.

Shipping: All Lots will be shipped unless mutually agreed to by the Buyer and Seller. The Seller will arrange shipment. Buyers are responsible for all shipping costs and insurance. Insurance is mandatory and must cover the full hammer price. Risk transfers to the Buyer when the Lot is released to the shipping provider.
