Lot #55: Antique brass bed

Antique brass bed. Bought by my family at a farm auction in Eastern Ontario in the late 1960s.It is sized for a double mattress. The bed needs a good polish but is otherwise in good condition. The rails are cast iron and fit into the headboard and footboard using horseshoe joints. It is a charming piece and looks amazing when polished. The brass tubing used in these antique beds is much heavier gauge than in reproductions which is why the bed has weathered the last 120 years so well. This is an heirloom quality piece that looks amazing when fully polished. The bed is quite heavy, but when disassembled, each piece is manageable to carry.
