1986 Canadian 2-dollar banknote This is a 1986 Canadian 2-dollar banknote, part of the Birds of Canada series. It was the final paper 2-dollar bill issued by Canada before being phased out on February 18, 1996, and replaced by the bimetallic coin commonly known as the "toonie". Key Features Color: Primarily terra cotta (reddish orange). Obverse (Front): Features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II engraved by Henry S. Doubtfire, with the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa visible next to her. Reverse (Back): Depicts two American robins in a meadow. Legal Tender Status: As of January 1, 2021, this note is no longer legal tender, meaning businesses are not required to accept it for payment.
