Up for auction is a wonderful slice of retro mid-century Americana—a stylized Harlequin / Masquerade Ballerina TV lamp. Popularized in the 1950s as a gentle back-light for early home television sets, this unique conversation piece features a porcelain lady figurine in a striking black, gold, and white harlequin pattern outfit complete with a molded masquerade eye mask. The figurine stands elegantly beside a gold-toned wire carriage outline. The curved fiberglass backdrop shade features a classic MCM geometric gold triangle pattern laced around a metal wire frame. When turned on, the bulb casts a beautiful, warm ambient glow through the parchment-like fiberglass shade, perfectly illuminating the silhouette of the dancer from behind.
