Iconic electronic educational toy from Texas Instruments designed to help children learn spelling and pronunciation using one of the earliest consumer speech synthesizers. Originally introduced in 1978, the Speak & Spell became one of the most recognizable educational toys of the late 1970s and 1980s. The device features a built-in keyboard, speech synthesis technology, and interactive spelling games using over 200 commonly misspelled words. It became famous for its robotic synthesized voice and later gained pop culture recognition after appearing in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. This vintage unit is currently working, however the batteries should be replaced as the voice occasionally begins to sound distorted/warped when power gets low. Shows some cosmetic wear consistent with age and use (see photos).
