Istvan Komáromy was born in <span class"bg-warning nswreasons" id"rid-126">Germany</span> in 1910. He studied medical science in the late 1920's in Budapest, Hungary where he discovered he had a talent for glass blowing, making scientific glassware for fellow students and thereby creating additional income. This led to a fascination with glass and he began making artistic art deco-style glass items in his spare time. His professor at the time, sponsored Istvan on his first exhibition, launching his career as a young glass artist with exhibitions around Europe where he won a number of gold and silver medals. He moved to London in 1937 having married an Englishwoman and set up his own studios, producing work for the royal family and supplying the top London department stores.

Jürgen Schadeberg was a <span class"bg-warning nswreasons" id"rid-125">German</span>-born South African photographer and artist. He photographed key moments in South African history, including iconic photographs such as Nelson Mandela at Robben Island prison. He also lived, worked and taught in London and Spain, and photographed in many African countries.

Jürgen Schadeberg was born in Berlin. In 1950 he emigrated to South Africa and became Chief Photographer, Picture Editor, and Art Director at Drum Magazine. It was during this time that Schadeberg photographed pivotal moments in the lives of South Africans in the fifties. These photographs represent the life and struggle of South Africans during Apartheid and include important figures in South Africa’s history such as Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Yusuf Dadoo, and many others. He documented key moments such as the Defiance Campaign of 1952; the Treason Trial of 1958; the Sophiatown Removals and the Sharpeville Funeral in 1960. Schadeberg is a principal figure in South African and World Photography. His major body of work, which spans 70 years and incorporates a collection of some 200,000 negatives, captures a wealth of iconic images that push for social change.

Miro Malish is an artist active in Toronto, Ontario. He was born in 1944 in the Czechoslovakia. Malish attended the Bratislava School of Ceramics, afterwards completing a 2-year apprenticeship in graphic arts and printing. Malish immigrated to Canada in 1968. Malish has contributed to various Canadian and international publications, including Rolling Stone and Esquire.

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1901, Graham Noble Norwell emigrated to Canada in 1914 with his family, settling in Kingston, Ontario after a short initial stay in Montreal. In 1920, Norwell studied under Arthur Lismer, George Reid, J.W. Beatty and Robert Holmes at the Ontario College of Art before traveling overseas to London and Paris to continue his art studies before returning to Canada and setting in Ottawa. Working in oil and watercolour, the artist is best known for his depictions of Laurentian winter landscapes often including rural villages and cottages. The artist exhibited with the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1921-1943 and the Art Association of Montreal in 1922-1943. His works are included in the collections of the Art Gallery of Ontario and the National Gallery of Canada

Large Abstract Lovers Wood Carved Mod Era Sculpture Artist Signed Marc Armin

Jaroslav Šejnoha (born 1889) was a Czech-Canadian painter and art restorer. He is most notably known in the art world as a close friend, collector, and patron to the pioneer of abstract art, František Kupka.  Connection to František Kupka: Šejnoha was a close associate of the famous Czech painter Kupka. A major painting by Kupka, "Flux et reflux" (1923), was gifted directly to Šejnoha, inscribed with the words “à mon ami J. Sejnoha”. This specific painting has sold at Sotheby's for millions of dollars due to its historical importance.  As a painter in his own right, Šejnoha is recognized for post-impressionist and modernist-leaning works, often focusing on Canadian and Bohemian landscapes. His technique ranged from oil on canvas to oil on wood panel.   After living in Paris, Šejnoha eventually immigrated to Canada, which is why his estate occasionally surfaces in Canadian secondary art markets and historical archives. He is documented in the Artists in Canada database.

Julius Damasdy is a Hungarian-Canadian painter and sculptor. He was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1937 and immigrated to Canada in 1957. He enrolled in the Ontario College of Art and graduated with honours in 1964. That same year, he was awarded the Eaton Foundation Travelling Scholarship and the Governor General&#39;s Award.

His work can be found in such collections as the Art Gallery of Ontario, Sony Canada, Hewlett Packard, the Government of Alberta, Yamaha Motor Co, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and IMB Canada.

Julius Damasdy (sometimes spelled Damadsy). Born in Budapest in 1937, he immigrated to Canada in 1957 and built a long, respected career creating both vibrant paintings and intricate bronze sculptures.  Damasdy is highly regarded for his skill with both oils and acrylics. His artistic style ranges from post-impressionistic landscapes—especially capturing Canadian scenery like British Columbia—to figurative works and abstract compositions.

Johanna Eleonore (Hanni) Rothschild

As a child, Hanni danced and performed on the stage as an actress. She and Freddie emmigrated from Germany in 1948, landing in New York then to Canada where there were stops in Quebec City and London, Ontario, before settling in Toronto. Shortly thereafter, she embarked on what was ultimately to become an extensive and prolific career as a much recognized Canadian artist exhibiting in galleries across the country. Hanni won first prize at the Canadian National Exhibition art show. She represented Canada at the Canadian Government Pavilion Expo &#39;67 and the Canadian Sport Art Exhibition at the 1976 Calgary Olympics. She sculpted the trophy given to each of the Canadian and Russian hockey players who participated in the 1972 original &#34;Summit Series&#34;. The CBC made a short film of her work. She is represented in numerous leading private and public collections across North America.
