Lot #405: Art: Amilcare Santini Sculpture

A sculpture of a Discobolus (Discus Thrower) figure, a classic reproduction of the famous ancient Greek bronze statue by Myron (circa 460–450 BC) created by the workshop of Amilcare Santini (1910–1975) in Italy. Santini was renowned for developing a specific composite material that blends crushed alabaster, marble dust, and synthetic resin. This mixture is poured into hand-crafted molds and then meticulously finished by hand to mimic the look and weight of solid carved marble. Authentic pieces are often signed "A. Santini" on the base. This piece was purchased in 1963 from Galleria Dell’ Academia di Firenze in Florence Italy - the same gallery where the famous “David” is housed. .
