Original Vintage Black-and-White Snapshots of WWII Canadian Interned Dissident #2 This photograph appears to depict a group of men interned at Camp 33 (also known as Camp P) near Petawawa, Ontario, during World War II. Description The image shows a group of 11 men posed in two rows in front of a wooden building. A small placard in the lower right corner displays the number "62", which likely refers to an internee's personal identification number or a specific group/barracks designation within the camp. The men are dressed in practical, rugged clothing typical of internees who were often put to work in the forestry reserve, clearing land, or cutting wood. While the group is described as "dissidents," Camp 33 housed various groups at different times, including: German-Canadians and "Enemy Aliens": Suspected Nazi sympathizers or individuals whose loyalties were questioned. Italian-Canadians: Over 600 were sent here following Italy's declaration of war in 1940. Japanese-Canadians: Interned later in the war, often for protesting their treatment. Canadian Political Dissidents: Including communists and others deemed security threats under the War Measures Act. Historical Value This photo is a rare primary source document of a controversial chapter in Canadian history. Internment camps like Petawawa operated under the War Measures Act, which allowed for the detention of citizens and residents without charge or trial. Because photography within these camps was strictly censored by the Canadian government, candid or non-official photos of internees are relatively uncommon and provide significant insight into the daily lives and identities of those held behind barbed wire. This document is of great historical value. All information provided herein is considered accurate. It is the buyer's responsibility to verify its accurateness. As shown and as is. The pictures are part of the description. Pickup category timeslot {A}
