Original Vintage WWII Canadian Interned Dissident Mail #3 This is a very rare and highly significant piece of World War II postal history from Canada. Item Description This is a handwritten letter on a postcard, dated December 16, 1940, from Petawawa, Ontario. The Author: L. L., identified as P/W 789 (Prisoner of War). During this period, "dissidents"—including political figures, "enemy aliens," and those opposing conscription—were interned alongside combatant prisoners. The Content: Written in French, Loranger wishes his friend a "Happy New Year" and expresses deep gratitude for a gift of pajamas. He notes that the pajamas are a "great relief" because the camp has no bedsheets. Postal Markings: The circular red handstamp reading "CANADA INT. OP. / CENSORED / 5" is a classic censor mark from the internment operations (Int. Op.) used to ensure no sensitive information left the camp. Historical Value This document provides a firsthand account of the conditions within Camp 33 (Camp P) at Petawawa. It is historically valuable for several reasons: Civil Liberties: It represents a period when the Canadian government used the War Measures Act to intern citizens based on political beliefs or ethnic origin. Social History: It illustrates the physical hardships internees faced, such as the lack of basic amenities like sheets. Censorship: It is a preserved example of the military's control over communication during the war. This document, of great historical value, will be the pride of any discerning curator. This is a document worthy of a museum. All information provided herein is considered accurate. It is the buyer's responsibility to verify its accurateness. As shown and as is. The pictures are part of the description. Pickup category timeslot {A}
