Original Vintage WWII Canadian Interned Dissident Mail #9 This is a unique and very rare piece of wartime postal history: a hand-written letter sent from a Canadian internment camp in 1942 by A. A., the self-proclaimed "Canadian Führer". Description The document is written in French on thin, translucent paper, typical for wartime mail. Date: It is dated "Jeudi, 1st Oct. 1942, 3 p.m." (Thursday, Oct 1, 1942) [Visual]. Content: A. discusses personal health, family news, and mentions financial support from a "Dr. de la rue Sherbrooke" for those in need [Visual]. True to his character, he remains defiant, emphasizing the importance of remaining "instructed" and "ambitious" even in captivity [Visual]. Censorship: The small vertical slash mark on the left side of the folded portion is a typical censor's mark, indicating the letter was reviewed by camp authorities before being sent [Visual]. Historical Value A. A. was the leader of the Canadian National Unity Party, a fascist organization banned in 1940. This letter has significant historical value as it: Documents Internment: Provides a primary source account of life for high-profile political dissidents interned under the Defence of Canada Regulations during WWII. Reveals Networks: Mentions of financial aid and continuing correspondence suggest that his network remained active even while he was imprisoned at Camp 33 (Petawawa, Ontario). Rare Evidence: While much of A.'s archive is held by Library and Archives Canada, private correspondence from this period is extremely rare in the open market. The value is driven by rarity and notoriety. A. is a central figure in the history of Canadian extremism, and there is a niche but dedicated market for "Dark History" and WWII postal history. Condition Matters: Letters with the original censored envelope command the highest prices. The presence of clear dates and specific mentions of his political circle further increases its value to historians and specialized collectors. This document, of great historical value, will be the pride of any discerning curator. This is a document worthy of a great and informed museum.
