1944 Canadian Victory 5-Cent Coin

Canada 1944 Five-Cent Coin (No Chrome)
This is a 1944 Canadian &#34;Victory&#34; 5-cent coin.
It features a 12-sided (dodecagonal) shape and Thomas Shingles&#39; famous reverse design, which combines a large &#34;V&#34; (representing both the number 5 in Roman numerals and the Allied &#34;V for Victory&#34; campaign) with a burning sacrificial torch.
The Base Metal: Because nickel was needed for WWII armor plating, these coins were struck on steel blanks.
The Plating: To prevent the steel from rusting, the Mint electroplated the blanks with a thin layer of copper, followed by a bright, shiny layer of chromium (chrome).
The Wear: When these coins spent years circulating in people&#39;s pockets, the thin chromium layer naturally wore off, exposing the duller steel underneath.
