Round silver-tone coin; obverse shows left-facing portrait of King George VI with legend “GEORGIVS VI DEI GRATIA REX”. Reverse displays beaver on rock, “5 CENTS” above, “CANADA 1951” below.

Canada 1951 Low Relief 5-Cent Coin

Canada 1961 Five-Cent Coin (Low Relief)
This is a 1951 Canada Five-Cent (Low Relief) coin featuring the traditional beaver design. There are two main varieties of this coin: Low Relief and High Relief.
Identifying the Variety
The variety is determined by looking at the obverse (heads) side of the coin, specifically the position of the lettering relative to the rim &#34;denticles&#34; (the small teeth-like bumps around the edge).
Low Relief: The top of the final &#34;A&#34; in the word GRATIA points between two denticles.
High Relief: The top of that same &#34;A&#34; points directly to a denticle. This variety was created when a die intended for nickel was used by mistake on steel planchets.
History
Composition: Due to the Korean War, Canada shifted from using pure nickel to chromium-plated steel for these coins in 1951.
