Original 1896 Meiji-Era Japanese Woodblock Print Diptych (Framed) I'm offering an original 1896 Meiji-Era Japanese Woodblock Print Diptych, beautifully framed and ready to display. This piece captures a serene scene with meticulous detail, showcasing the artistry of the period. Artist: Goryūtei Keishō (五流亭景松) Authenticity: Signed with original red hand-carved artist seal (hanko) in the lower-left corner. Date: 1896 (Meiji 29). Traditional hand-written kanji date notation (明治廿九年) is detailed below the matboard. Genre: Traditional Kachō-ga / Kachō-e (Bird-and-Flower art style). Subject: A dynamic Crested Myna bird (鹦鹆) perched on a rugged cliff face overlooking a minimalist mountain terrain. Dimensions & Specifications Frame Size: 15.25" x 12.25" Visible Artwork Size: 7.5" x 5.5" About the Artist: Goryūtei Keishō (五流亭景松) Active during the late 19th-century Meiji period, Goryūtei Keishō was a highly skilled commercial print designer and illustrator. He specialized in creating complex instructional painting templates for woodblock-printed art manuals (ehon and gafu). These widespread manuals allowed art students and hobbyists across Japan to study masterful line control, traditional brushwork variance, and classical nature compositions. Because his designs were bound into compilation volumes, single double-page diptychs like this one are highly prized by modern collectors who carefully extract, preserve, and frame them as standalone decorative works of art Condition & Presentation Framing: High-quality custom presentation. Housed behind a clean, professional off-white matboard and framed in an elegant, exhibition-ready dark cherry wood frame. Condition: Excellent antique preservation. The vertical center crease is the original book spine fold line—completely standard for authentic 19th-century book plates. The hand-made washi paper is structurally stable with no active moisture staining foxing, harsh fading, or wormholes. Display Ready: Completely ready to hang with professional framing wire pre-installed on the back—ideal for instantly grounding a home office, library, study, or living space Pickup at Yonge Street and Steeles Avenue Pickup category timeslot {A}
