Vibrant Mid-Century Mexican Folk Art Painting on Burlap (1976) An exceptional mid-century modern regionalist folk art painting executed on genuine textured burlap canvas, beautifully presented in its original, substantial tiered wood shadowbox frame. Signed "LARRY 76" in the upper left corner, this striking piece stands as a masterful period homage capturing the unmistakable signature style and whimsical spirit of renowned Mexican modernist painter José María de Servín (1917–1983). The artwork masterfully captures De Servín's most celebrated theme—a stylized, wide-eyed Mexican child holding sliced watermelons (sandías). It features bold geometric outlines, a warm earth-toned color palette, and decorative traditional patterns balanced beautifully against the natural, rustic texture of the woven burlap textile backdrop. Key Specifications Lot Number: 41 Artist Signature: "Larry '76" (Executed in the highly distinct manner of José María de Servín) Date of Creation: 1976 Medium: Mixed Media / Oil or Gouache on woven burlap, mounted to rigid board Support Board: Original Vintage Craftint Fulton Canvas Panel Subject: Mexican Folk Portrait / Boy with Watermelons Style: Mid-Century Modern / Latin American Regionalist Folk Art Framing: Original 2.75-inch wide tiered solid wood mid-century frame with white inner lip Overall Framed Size: 21.5" x 25.75" x 1.5" (54.6 cm x 65.4 cm x 3.8 cm) Artwork Inner Size: 16" x 20" (40.6 cm x 50.8 cm) Condition Report Artwork: Preserved in excellent vintage condition.
